1. Product Description:

 

The Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) is a type of eco-friendly green building material and high quality secondary cementitious material for concrete and cement. It is recognized as one of the best secondary cementitious material for building high durable concrete strecture in the world today !GGBS has taken over top place of high-performance cement and concrete mineral additives with its unique characteristics of hydration,low-price raw material.

 

GGBS is obtained by quenching molten iron blastfurnace slag (a by- product of iron and steel making) in water or steam. It is then further grounded into the desired fineness in terms of the required particle size distributionm.

 

 

2. Applications & Benefits For the product:

 

High-performance concrete additive, especially suitable for: 

 

1).  Preparation of the harbor and marine concrete structures with high resistance to corrosion by chloride ion. 

 

2). Preparation of corrosion resistant concrete, improving durability of concrete structure in soleplate salt and alkali regions. 

 

3). Preparation of concrete which provides effective prevention measures for the potential active alkali-aggregate reactions in concrete. 

 

4).  Preparation of low heat concrete which, effectively reducing the risk of temperature cracks in early period of the mass concrete structure. 

 

5). Preparation of pumping concrete to effectively reduce the slump loss in the construction in summer, hence improving the workability of concrete. 

 

6). Preparation of self compacting concrete to have effective control on bleeding and segregation of high fluidity concrete. 

 

Super-reactive cementitious additives, especially suitable for:

1). Production of medium content (****0%) slag cement, improving the strength of all ages.
2). Production of low heat cement with high GGBS substitutions (****0%), used for mass or port/marine concrete structures.

 

Information: 

1 Durability

GGBS has now effectively replaced sulfate-resisting Portland cement (SRPC) on the market for sulfate resistance because of its superior performance and greatly reduced cost compared to SRPC. Most projects in Dublin's Docklands, including Spencer Dock, are using GGBS in subsurface concrete for sulfate resistance.

 

2 Appearance

In contrast to the stony grey of concrete made with Portland cement, the near-white color of GGBS cement permits architects to achieve a lighter colour for exposed fair-faced concrete finishes, at no extra cost. GGBS cement also produces a smoother, more defect free surface, due to the fineness of the GGBS particles. Dirt does not adhere to GGBS concrete as easily as concrete made with Portland cement, reducing maintenance costs. GGBS cement prevents the occurrence of efflorescence, the staining of concrete surfaces by calcium carbonate deposits.

 

3 Strength

Concrete containing GGBS cement has a higher ultimate strength than concrete made with Portland cement. It has a higher proportion of the strength-enhancing calcium silicate hydrates (CSH) than concrete made with Portland cement only, and a reduced content of free lime, which does not contribute to concrete strength. Concrete made with GGBS continues to gain strength over time, and has been shown to double its **-day strength over periods of *0 to *2 years.

 

4 Sustainability

Since GGBS is a by-product of steel manufacturing process, its use in concrete is recognized by LEED etc. as improving the sustainability of the project and will therefore add points towards LEED certification. In this respect, GGBS can also be used for superstructure in addition to the cases where the concrete is in contact with chlorides and sulfates. This is provided that the slower setting time for casting of the superstructure is justified.
